MetoyerLab: AI Research Assistant

My Thoughts:

• This was my first undergraduate research experience under Professor Metoyer (the goat). I learned a lot during this fall semester. I would say that this was one of the first projects that I spearheaded from the ground up and involved close interaction with my groupmates and Prof. Metoyer. It’s crazy how much the conversation around RAG has shifted since the fall of 2025. Even though RAG was already considered pretty standard practice by then, the rapid growth of context windows has made people question whether it’s still necessary for certain tasks. Nevertheless, it was a great experience learning about the process, how it works, and how to build a product that has a use case.

My Contribution:

• I developed a RAG pipeline using the OpenAI API and then conducted comparative analysis between the OpenAI and Gemini API RAG’s.
• Both tools were integrated into an MCP server by my other teammate.
